Avoiding Carpal Tunnel at Work


A college friend once went on a Blackberry hiatus as a result of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I'm not even kidding- all her rapid texting had inflamed her tendons. That got me thinking about all the typing and texting we do on a daily basis. Now, this friend of mine was an aid to the President of the United Sates, so I figured her texting was a bit extreme. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that many of us spend huge chunks of the day with our hands flying over the keyboard or hovered over the mouse. So, I thought I put together a few tips for avoiding the fate of my friend- after all, who could survive without texting prowess?

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel:

  • Numbness or tingling in your fingers or hands
  • Weakness in your hands
  • Pain in your hands or wrists

Tips for Avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

Like most things in life, it's far better to be proactive and protect against future injury. If you work on a computer every day, take the necessary precautions to stay injury-free.
