Why to Use White Noise

Posted

I have always been a fan of white noise, and I am shocked at how few people really know about it and how it works. No reason to reinvent the wheel, so here's a quick read on what white noise really is to get you up to speed....Now that you've read it (ahem...), let's get down to the nitty-gritty.

Does white noise really work?

Yes. There's no way around it. It's not a get rich quick scheme that sounds good on paper and then fizzles out in real life. White noise is what it's cracked up to be. In fact, white noise is so good at covering sound that many businesses, medical professionals, and government officials opt for white noise on a larger scale by implementing sound masking. Sound masking is the emission of white noise to a targeted area through speakers in the ceiling tiles. The result has been decreased distraction and increased productivity, as well as confidentiality.

Why use white noise?

For starters, white noise allows your brain to tune out other sounds. Why is that important, or even useful? Well, it's easier just to list the various applications.

  • More focused work
  • Increased privacy and confidentiality (government, doctors, hospitals, boardrooms, counseling)
  • Less interrupted sleep, especially on the road
  • More peaceful relaxation
  • Sound therapy for tinnitus
  • Better sleep for kids (especially if a new baby is crying throughout the night!)

The bottom line is that white noise is a great alternative to lost hours of work or sleep. And since many white noise generators are free and portable sound machines are easier to pack than ever, there's no reason not to give white noise a shot!
