Considering the 4 Basic Parts of a Workstation Chair

Your chair is one of the most important pieces of office equipment you choose.  It is important not only for function and comfort, but for you health as well.  All too many times people come home with neck aches, back aches, shoulder pain, and more as a result of poor seating.

Yes, we all know it's best to sit up straight, but for office work, there is much more involved.  The goal of your workstation chair is to allow you to sit and move without placing stress or stain on your legs, your back, your arms, your neck and your shoulders.  These are all areas where office workers commonly have health issues.  Choosing the best chair for you can prevent these types of issues.

As you choose your chair consider the four basic parts, the backrest, the armrest, the seat and the base.

  • The backrest should provide ample support for the lower (lumbar) region of your back.
  • The armrest should be adjustable so your arms are neither too high nor too low for shoulder comfort.
  • The seat should be wide enough for you to move from side to side comfortably without contact stress from the chair.
  • Finally, the base should have five support rollers to ensure stability.
