How to Choose an Ergonomic Task Chair

Sitting at your desk all day using your computer can really take its toll on your body.

So much so, that the tight muscles and pain you think is coming from mental stress at work could actually be coming from the way you’re sitting during your day.  If you’re constantly having back, neck, or shoulder pain consider purchasing an ergonomic task chair for work. An ergonomic task chair is designed to allow you to sit comfortably while providing your body the best support for the tasks at hand.  You’ll find many varieties of ergonomic task chairs available for your selection.  Here are three very important points to consider as you make your purchase.

  • Chair Seat - The seat of your chair has a huge effect on how well your spine remains in proper positioning during the day.  Just ask any chiropractor and he will tell you that the best seat for spinal alignment is a firm seat.  Save the cushy chairs for rest and relaxation.
  • Back Support - The back of your task chair not only helps spinal alignment, it also contributes to keeping your muscles from getting stiff and fatigued.  Some experts recommend an ergonomic stool chair without the back support.  This type of seating forces the body to stay straight, using the abs and back or “core” muscles to keep spinal alignment in proper proportion.
  • You will also want to make sure you can adjust the height of the chair for the best ergonomic performance.  Sitting too high or too low will cause you to look up or down on your computer screen can cause neck stress and strain. Make sure you’re sitting at the proper height.

You’ll find ergonomic task chairs in a wide range of prices.  Make sure you get the chair that’s suits your body and your needs…it may not always be the most expensive chair.  Investigate thoroughly before you purchase.
