More Ergonomic Benefits in New Keyboards

The Goal of an Ergonomic Keyboard

Ergonomic keyboards have been available for quite some time, but new technology has added even more benefit.  The main goal of all ergonomic keyboards is to keep the forearms, wrists, hands and fingers from stress and pain while keyboarding.

If you’re currently having issues with one or more areas of your forearm wrists and hands, it is most likely because of improper alignment as you use your keyboard.  With so many available designs such as split keyboards, left handed keyboards, mini keyboards, wrist rest–keyboard combination, and even heated keyboards, it is important to identify your issues and choose a keyboard to match your needs. Ergonomic keyboards are not a one size fits all problem-wise, so it's important to identify your main source of pain or aches and choose accordingly.
  • For example, if your main issue is wrist pain, try a keyboard with a wrist rest attached.
  • Furthermore, if you’re having neck and shoulder pain, try a keyboard with a touchpad rather than using a separate mouse.

As you choose your keyboard, remember you want your hands, arms, and upper body to remain in a neutral non-stressed position as you use your keyboard.  Muscles should remain relaxed as you use your keyboard. Choose a good ergonomic keyboard to match your issue, and you’ll have less aches and pains.
