Creating an ergonomic workstation

How to Choose the Best Ergonomic Workstation

With modular workstations you have many layout options from which to choose.  There are the traditional straight desks, u-shaped, corner, and l-shaped desks.  With the desks you can create your own workstation based upon your individual needs.  Setting up your workstation for comfort and productivity will eliminate stress, strain and pain from your workday.  For best health, practice these ergonomic tips as you set up your workstation.

  1. Choose your desktop width carefully.  Proper width allows you to place items in locations that are accessible and useful without reaching or straining. Your computer screen should be 20 inches or more away from your body.
  2. Make sure you choose proper desk height, as well.  A desk that is too high or too low will cause you to raise your shoulders or be in a constant bending reaching reach position.
  3. Workspace areas should be adequate.  You don’t want to have the items on our desk cramped or too close together. Doing so can cause uncomfortable positions as you use different items.
  4. Have adequate clearing underneath.  Adequate clearance underneath your desk will allow you to move in different positions with ease.

Following these points will help you choose the desk that is best for ergonomics and for the work you do.  Your body will suffer less aches and pains with an ergonomic desk setup.
