Tips for your chair to help you eliminate lower back pain
After sitting at a desk for eight or nine hours a day, many people leave work with an aching back. You may be thinking your pain is coming because you’re sitting in a chair all day. The fact is it is probably not because you’re sitting, but because the chair you’re sitting in is not ergonomically correct for you and the work you do.
- Ergonomically friendly chairs have the ability to adjust. A good ergonomic chair will have height adjustment, good lumbar (lower back) support that is adjustable, and arms rests that adjust to fit your body and your needs.
- Your chair should be at the proper height so you can place your hands and forearms comfortably on your work surface.
- You need to be able to place the chair close enough to your desk so you’re not leaning over or reaching to work.
- The chair should also provide adequate support in the lumbar region of your back. The curve of your lower back should be supported by a pad in the backrest of the chair. You should be able to adjust the chair to get this pad at the correct position for adequate support.
Try using a chair with these adjustments and support and you could well find your lower back pain disappearing.
