Ergonomic Workstation Design

Creating an ergonomic workstation

Workstation Ergonomics and Health

Incorporating good ergonomics in the workstation promotes good health. The way you work directly affects the health you experience at the end of the day.

  • Set up your workstation in a manner that gives you optimal use of your equipment while giving you the most ergonomically healthy atmosphere.
  • Choose a desk that is at the appropriate height, length, and width to accommodate your equipment.
  • Keep in mind your office tools should be at an arms length.
  • Your monitor should be at least 20 inches from you to the screen, and your keyboard should stay at a height that allows you to keep your elbows close to your body.
  • Your chair should offer support to your stature. The backrest should allow for and support the natural curvature of your spine. It must adjust in height to allow you to use ergonomically correct postures.

To maintain an ergonomically and healthy atmosphere, you must use the proper tools to assist you, but also be conscious of your body movements and the way you work. By considering the right tools and your own posture and movements, you are on your way to a healthy ergonomically-savvy office.
