4 Tips for Stress Reduction at Work

Budget cuts, layoffs, and a smaller workforce increases tension in the workplace.  If you’re feeling the stress at work, there are things you can do to improve your situation and your stress level.  While you may not be able to control addition workload, or co-workers less than perfect attitudes, you can learn how to take it all in stride without over stressing.  Below are four important tips to help you get control of stress for a positive impact on your life.

Tip # 1 Improve Time Management

Review your daily tasks, responsibilities, and family and social activities. Try to balance your time each day between work, family, and play.  Look for ways to leave work at work, and home at home. Stay focused on the task at hand rather than taking time out to do other stuff.

Tip # 2 Prioritize and Plan

Before you start work make a to-do list for the day.  Doing your least favorite tasks first leaves the remainder of the free of the stress of what’s coming next.  If you have a big project, break it down into smaller segments rather than trying to do it all at once. You’ll get more done and reduce stress.

Tip # 3 Fix Your Work Area

Don’t overlook those annoying things that you can control.  Lighting, office temperature, and noise control are three important areas that can cause you stress.  If you’re not comfortable in your work environment stress can rise.

Tip # 4 Take Time for Yourself

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or negative feelings are mounting get away.  Just taking a five minute break can help.  During your break, don’t concentrate on the issues.  Instead do something that is relaxing.  A short walk outside, a few deep breaths and some stretching can do wonders to clear your mind.
