Computer Ergonomics – Set Up Your Machine for Low Stress and High Productivity
Set Up Your Machine for Low Stress and High Productivity Sitting at your desk all day causes more stress and strain on your body than you realize.
This stress and strain can be a big drain on your productivity and on your physical well-being. Much of the tired achy feeling after a day at the office is a result of how your computer workstation is set up.
In the last few years, there has been much research on the effects of the placement of your computer equipment and neck, shoulder, back, hand and wrist pain. Here are a few tips based on OSHA recommendations to help you feel better and get more work done during the day.
1. Set your monitor so the top of the monitor is eye level, directly in front of you at arm’s length
2. The height of your desk should be approximately belly button height. Elbows should be at a ninety-degree angle, just below work surface.
3. Sitting at your workstation, you knees should be at ninety-degree angles with your feet flat on the floor. Back and shoulders should be straight with support provided by the back of your chair.
4. Keyboard should be directly in front of you. Wrists are best in line with forearms, not bent in any position. Just following these basic computer ergonomics practices can result in less physical stress and more productivity while at your computer.
