Using Ergonomics for Less Stress at Work

All too often we come home from work with headache, backache or other aches and pains.  Usually while you’re at work you don’t think too much about how you’re sitting, or using your computer and monitor.  Take a few moments now to review the following good ergonomics practices.  Look for possible solutions in your own work space to improve your comfort and your health.

Your office workspace should be set up so your computer monitor is directly in front of you at a distance of twenty inches.  The first line of the screen should be at eye level.

As you sit in your chair your body should be in a neutral position while working.  No area should be under stress or strain.  Avoid things like reaching or stretching, leaning forward, or moving in awkward or stressful positions as you work.  For example:

•    Keep regularly used items within arms reach.
•    Don’t hold you phone with your shoulder.  For frequent long calls use a headset or a speaker.
•    Make sure your chair is at the proper height for arms to be straight in line with desk surface as you type.
•    Keeping your forearms, wrists and hands in a straight neutral position helps to avoid repetitive stress health issues.

These practices will help eliminate stress and strain as you work.  Make necessary changes today.
