Save Your Back, Your Neck and More with an Ergonomic Computer Chair

How to Choose an Ergonomic Computer Chair

Sitting at your computer all day not only gets the work done, it also works on your body more than you may realize. Coming home with tight shoulders or an aching back is not just from the mental stress at work. In fact, the mental stress could be a very small portion of your stress, strains, aches, and pains. It could be the computer chair you’re sitting in while you’re at work.

Back strain is one of the most common occurrences when sitting for long periods at a computer. So, choosing an ergonomic computer chair is one of the best choices you can make for the health and fitness of your body. Great advances have been made in the customization of ergonomic chairs. Depending on your budget, you can get chairs designed just for your habits, your size, and your preferences. Not all ergonomic computer chairs are equal, so be sure to investigate before purchasing.

  • As you are choosing your chair, investigate the seat firmness. Chiropractors recommend the firmest seat you can tolerate for best spine alignment.
  • Secondly, make sure to match the back support size to your body size. Choosing back support that’s too small or too big to accommodate your back shape and size won’t provide the ergonomics you need.
  • Another important factor in your selection is the arm options. Some experts recommend no arm rests, while others seem neutral. If you do choose armrests make sure they're adjustable and be aware of just how much you are leaning on the rests. Too must leaning can cause neck and shoulder problems.
  • Almost all ergonomic computer chairs come with adjustable heights. Make sure to make the adjustment so you are at optimal height for your computer screen and work area.
