Adjust Your Keyboard Tray to Fit You!
The Slide-out Keyboard Drawers are an economical alternative to
articulating keyboards systems. It mounts under the
work surface and slides in and out on two ball bearing drawer slides.
When the drawer is fully extended outwards, it locks in place until it
is pushed from the front of the tray.
Since the Slide-out Keyboard Drawer is installed at a specific height (1.25” to 2.75” beneath the work surface), it is important to determine whether or not this would be the correct height range for you.
Follow the steps below to determine the correct height for your keyboard drawer.
- Adjust your chair to the correct height (so it makes contact behind the thighs, but isn't trying to lift your heels off the floor).
- With your arms next to your body, extend you hands out in front of you with your forearm parallel to the floor. Measure the distance from the bottom of your forearm to the floor.
- Subtract a 1 ½” from your measurement to compensate for the thickness of the keyboard, and this the target height at which your keyboard platform should be positioned.
- Now, measure the distance from the floor to the mounting point under your work surface. If the mount point is at 29", that would mean that the keyboard drawer could be placed at 26 ¼” to 27 ¾” from the floor. If your target height falls into this range, the Slide-out Keyboard Drawer is a good match for you.
- If your target height is lower than the 26 ¼” consider using a footrest. By using a footrest you can now raise the height of your chair without lifting your feet off the floor, and this should get you into the needed height range.
