Top 3 Reasons Why Ergonomics & Productivity go Hand in Hand

Regardless of a good or bad economy, every work place wants and needs good ergonomic habits because ergonomics and productivity go hand in hand. It doesn’t take much, but little tweaks here and there, along with good ergonomic equipment, make a big difference in productivity levels. Better productivity leads to increased sales and high demand for a company’s service, thus ensuring your job stability and your company’s increased success. Here are the top three practices of good ergonomics for better productivity.

  1. Choosing the proper ergonomic equipment.  Every company practicing good ergonomics makes sure they have the right equipment. In terms of office equipment you want to make sure desk and workstations are adjustable to fit the person who uses them.  The same is true for chairs.  Workstation heights, chairs, and desk configurations are not a one-size-fits-all.  Make sure the area and the chairs are configured properly for the work to be done and for the person performing the work.
  2. Establishing proper lighting.  The lighting any work area can have a drastic impact on productivity.  Spaces that are poorly lit, or glares from lighting or windows can cause eye strain, headaches and just plain poor vision.  These can all result in work-time inefficiency.  Consider improving the lighting and using antiglare screens for monitors.
  3. Ensuring motivation. When employees feel that their companies care enough about them to ergonomically enhance their workplaces, they are motivated to be more productive. Employees who do not believe their companies care about them will also not care enough about the company to increase productivity. Studies show that employees who love their job, and believe that companies make adjustments to fit their needs are more motivated to increase productivity. Thus, a goodness of fit between the employee and their workstations will not only benefit the worker but the company as well.
